The Defender Services Program is the federal appointed counsel/public defense system established by the Criminal Justice Act, 18 U.S.C. § 3006A. The Defender Services Program safeguards the Sixth Amendment Right to Counsel in the federal courts by providing high-quality, zealous representation on behalf of persons unable to afford counsel in federal criminal proceedings.
In recruiting employees, fellows, and interns, the Defender Services Program casts a broad net for applicants, one that reaches out to individuals of all manner of backgrounds and perspectives, including individuals who have overcome hardships or challenges. In selecting employees, fellows, and interns, the Program will not consider the applicant’s race, sex, age, ethnicity, religion, national origin, color, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status, or political affiliation. Selection decisions will be based solely on job-related merit.
